Why choose Snow Springs Dobes?

Our vision is to consistently produce healthy, high quality Doberman pups for family, companionship, competition, and/or work. We hold a high standard for our breeding dogs, and they must pass a series of health tests in order to become parents of our future puppies.  At very minimum, we test hips, heart, eyes, thyroid, vWD on ALL of our adults before we breed them.  We care a great deal about our future puppies, and seek to set them up for success in life the best we can!

Our puppies are born into the comforts of our home.  Puppies and mommy are under
constant care and observation.  Our nursery allows them private time with each other and their mommy. Once the puppies are old enough to play outside they enjoy daily supervised outside play time where they can run and romp in the sunshine. Our puppies are well socialized with the noises of home, radio, other dogs (after a certain age), lawn mowers, vacuum cleaners, etc.  Our goal is that each puppy meets 100 people before leaving our care and entering their forever homes.  Our puppies are well socialized with children daily and (after a certain age and under strict supervision) other friendly dogs.  They will come to you expecting this same kind of TLC to further their proper development for a happy and healthy life.  They receive tons of time and attention.  We love what we do and it shows in the quality of our puppies and their parents!

Not only do we health test all of our adults, but our puppies go through extensive socialization and desensitization to ensure they are going to be well rounded, social, confident and healthy minded dogs when they grow up.  Once they are old enough to spend time outside, they get plenty of time to build confidence though exploring obstacles and interacting with people.  From the time they are born up to the time they go home with you at 8-10 weeks old, we are continually handling them, training them, and socializing them.

We don't assign any of our puppies to a specific home/family until AFTER both the aptitude test is complete at age 7 weeks and the structure evaluation at 8 weeks.  This allows us to match the correct puppy with the correct owner, living environment, and situation.  Cuteness is a poor determining factor in choosing a puppy.  :o)  Don't get your heart set on a specific puppy until these tests have been completed and we have a better idea of which puppy will best match YOU!  We do our best to match gender and color requests, but the most important thing to us is that you get a puppy who has the drive, temperament, energy level, and personality which will best fit your lifestyle and specific situation.

Below is an example of our puppy raising program:
  • From the age of 3 days old to 4 weeks old they go through an intense but simple Early Neural Stimulation program.
  • From the age of 3 days old until they leave our care each individual puppy participates in daily routines from the Monk's of New Skete Puppy Raising Program.
  • Everyday we practice “back time” with each puppy, where we gently hold them on their back and rub their belly to help them learn to be submissive and calm.
  • At 3 weeks old they are started on a unique potty training program, and are usually 60-80% potty trained before they go to your home.
  • From 4 weeks to 10 weeks old we slowly introduce them to 100 people (adults & children) to ensure they are very social puppies.
  • At 7 weeks old they take Volhard’s Puppy Aptitude Test, so we can match each puppy’s temperament to the right forever home.  We don't formally assign any of our puppies to a specific home until the aptitude test is complete.  This allows us to match the correct puppy with the correct owner, living environment, and situation.  Cuteness alone is a poor determining factor in choosing a puppy.
  • They are given a bath each week to help teach them patience and desensitize them to being handled.  They are dried with a blow drier to get them used to sounds, warm heat, and handling. We also clean their ears and clip their nails during bath time.
  • From 4 weeks on we regularly make loud, sharp, banging noises in our house and in the puppy room to help them not be afraid of sudden noises.
  • From 4 weeks on we continually add new objects and obstacles to their puppy room (tunnels, stairs, ramps, platforms, etc) to teach them confidence and help them to not be afraid of new objects.
  • They are taken on weekly car rides to help desensitize them to the car, and help them not grow up to become car sick.
  • As they get older, we slowly open their world up to outside and let them explore on their own to help build their self esteem and get them used to everything outside.
  • They are socialized around different dogs to help them become very dog social as they get older. The dogs they are socialized with are always very dog friendly and up to date on their vaccines.
  • From 4 weeks on we teach the puppies to come when called (not by name, but to a unique noise like shaking keys, clapping, or kissing noises).
  • After weening, puppies are fed a healthy and holistic diet of high quality kibble mixed with cottage cheese, egg, coconut oil, and raw goat's milk.  This will help them develop properly as they grow.
  • At 8 weeks old, each puppy's structure (conformation) and movement will be evaluated by a professional judge in the Working Dog Group.
  • And much, much more!

What we require for all future caretakers of our puppies:

  • You must realize dogs are a life-long commitment, and you aren’t just adopting them until they get out of the “cute puppy stage” or turn into rascally teenagers.
  • You must be willing to keep in close contact with Snow Springs Dobes so that we may answer questions and mentor you as your raise your puppy.
  • They must be fed a high quality diet (no grocery story pet foods!)
  • If for any reason you need to rehome your puppy, you must to return them to Snow Springs Dobes.
  • You must be willing to complete obedience training with your puppy, as well as ensure that he/she remains properly socialized with people and other animals.  This will show us that you are willing to be responsible pet owners.
  • Recognize that 35% of how a dog turns out is determined by genetics.  The other 65% is determined by socialization, training, and nutrition.  We do our best to give our pups a solid, healthy genetic foundation and early start to their social and emotional life.  The rest is up to YOU!
  • We work hard to give our puppies a great start in socialization and confidence building, but it's your responsibility to continue that once they leave our care.  It is critical that you carry on exposing your growing puppy to different types of people, dogs, environments, and situations.  This is a lifetime process for a happy, confident, and well adjusted Doberman.
  • With very few exceptions, all puppies are sold with limited AKC registration and a spay/neuter contract.  You MUST spay/neuter them and they MUST NOT be bred prior to being fixed.  We recommend spaying females after their first heat, males by age 16 months.  Proof of spay/neuter should be sent to Snow Springs Dobes.
  • If for any reason we feel that the health or safety of your puppy is in jeopardy, we reserve the right to remove the puppy from your home.
